This case study, for the Merck Company Foundation, explains how Merck changed its corporate citizenship plan to work around corrupt officials in emerging markets and create an awareness of workplace ethics in those markets. It describes Merck's Gulf Centre for Excellence in Ethics, opened formally in 1998 to educate businesses and governments in the Arabian Gulf about the need to establish standards for workplace ethics.
