Center to Offer Seeing is Believing Program

September 1, 2005

“The trip to Zambia was amazing. Nike Foundation invests in helping to empower the world’s most disadvantaged girls so they can transform their lives, their families, communities and countries, and I’ve had the privilege to travel and work in many cultures - but rarely have I participated in such a powerful, well-organized, action-oriented and enlightening experience as this trip.”

That's how Maria Eitel, president of the Nike Foundation, described her recent trip to Zambia as part of the Seeing is Believing program, which provides participants with a firsthand look at the realities and potential of communities they might not otherwise visit, and inspires them to act.

Through 10-day trips to the world’s most economically challenged regions, the Seeing is Believing program aims to increase interest and investment - both charitable and business - in countries where both the opportunities and needs are great. These one- to two-week trips typically include 10-30 participants, from investors, philanthropists, journalists, to leaders of business, media, government and faith communities.

During the journey each participant becomes part of a vision, accelerating not only an understanding of the social, economic, and political challenges in a developing country, but redefining the role they play in creating positive change.  Participants return changing the questions their organizations are asking and reinvigorating the methods by which they engage with the developing world.

The Center is now able to offer this unique opportunity to its members through a partnership with the ImagineNations Group and Friends of Zambia. The next trip planned is to Zambia in November 2005. Upcoming trips for 2006 include the Middle East in the spring and China in the fall. To learn more, click here.
