The Global Leadership Network

September 1, 2005

The Global Leadership Network – a partnership among 10 leading global companies committed to achieving world-class performance excellence in corporate citizenship, along with research partners The Center for Corporate Citizenship and AccountAbility – is launching a global consortium open to leading companies around the world.

The Global Leadership Network was initiated by IBM in partnership with nine other global companies – 3M, Cargill, Cemex, Diageo, FedEx, General Electric, General Motors, Manpower and Omron – all of whom are leaders in their industry or corporate citizenship within their countries. For the last two years these companies have shared their experiences and worked to identify elements of their corporate responsibility programs that not only improve but also drive business performance.

The Center and AccountAbility have captured this valuable knowledge in a first-of-its-kind internal planning and performance measurement framework that helps a company align its own social, environmental and economic performance with core business strategy. The IBM®-designed on-line management tool will allow senior management to engage a cross-functional team to set corporate citizenship strategy and gather the data needed for an annual citizenship report, the GRI process, Global Compact participation and SRI surveys.

In forming the Global Leadership Network, its founders hoped to also help other global companies that favor determining their corporate responsibility strategies based on the interests and needs of the company, not on external compliance standards. Now they are prepared to do this through a global consortium open to leading companies around the world.
