From donating to pandemic planning, responding in crisis situations and providing education, the bio/pharmaceutical industry’s contributions to society and global health are increasingly important. Bio/pharmaceutical companies must learn to establish meaningful CSR goals that address the complex regulatory and social pressures facing their industry today.
The Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship, in association with the Center for Business Intelligence, is presenting the Bio/Pharmaceutical Corporate Social Responsibility Leadership Forum to be held on October 1-2, 2007 at the Doubletree Hotel in Philadelphia, PA.
A pre-conference workshop focusing on how to “Benchmark, Measure and Manage CSR Performance to Ensure True Impact and Progress” will be led by Center research associates Guy Morgan and Kwang Ryu, in conjunction with Paul J. Nichol, Ed.D., Compliance and Ethics Training and Communications Senior Manager, AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals. In this workshop, participants will be introduced to The Center's management framework and associated assessment tool, and will hear how leading companies – inside and outside the bio/pharmaceutical industry – are cutting through the clutter of emerging standards and codes to create manageable and measurable frameworks for tracking CSR progress.
Other workshops will focus on bio/pharmaceutical philanthropic case studies, including how:
- Johnson & Johnson creates corporate equity programs to garner positive societal change and lasting goodwill at a grassroots level
- OSI Foundation and Abbott Fund ensures corporate foundations reflect the mission of the company
- Roche works to supply HIV/AIDS medicines through innovative pricing structures and patent policies
- Bayer forms local and international partnerships to ensure success in raising awareness about Malaria protection options
- Project HOPE structures a disease-oriented collaboration with multiple sponsors (BD, Eli Lilly and Roche) that maximizes business and marketing benefits of sponsors
- Novartis leverages collaboration in industry as a coalition rather than in competition
- PhRMA initiates a program, PharmaCorps, that mobilizes employees to become active within their communities through positive industry-sponsored programs
- Amylin structures internal employee engagement programs to support business strategies
- Abbott identifies the role and value of the Partnership for Quality Medical Donations (PQMD) during disaster relief situations
