Excellence in Corporate Philanthropy Awards The Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy (CECP) is accepting applications for its Excellence in Corporate Philanthropy Awards. Two companies — one large and one small — will be awarded, as well as one nonprofit organization nominated by a corporate partner. Companies demanding more environmentally sound suppliers A growing majority of corporate decision makers will consider green credentials when selecting future outsourcing companies, according to a recent study by Brown-Wilson Group, a Florida company that studies the outsourcing industry. Corporate responsibility reporting awards CorporateRegister.com, which runs a free online depository of almost 15,000 CSR reports, has announced the CR Reporting Awards. The organization is inviting its 20,000 registered users to vote on-line to choose the award winners. Companies that published reports between October 2006 and September 2007 can nominate themselves for a range of awards, including: best overall report; best first-time report; best SME report; and best integrated report (combining financial and SCR data). In addition, there will be awards for different aspects of transparency in reporting, under the following categories: best carbon reporting; creativity in communications; relevance and materiality; openness and honesty; and credibility through assurance. Coca-Cola forms recycling arm Coca-Cola has announced the launch of Coca-Cola Recycling LLC, which will focus on capturing beverage packaging materials in North America for recycling within the Coca-Cola system. Mohawk Paper a leader in green power Center member Mohawk Fine Papers Inc. is now on two of the Environmental Protection Agency's lists of most sustainable companies. BCLC announces Corporate Citizenship Awards finalists The Business Civic Leadership Center has announced the finalists for the 2007 Corporate Citizenship Awards. Included in the group were Center members: Best Buy, Inc., the Dow Chemical Company, Microsoft Corporation and Verizon Communications (Corporate Stewardship, Large Business Award); Freddie Mac, Time Warner’s Cartoon Network (U.S. Community Service Award); Cisco, GlaxoSmithKline (International Community Service Award); Lockheed Martin (Partnership Award). Center member REI introduces eco-sensitive label Center member Recreational Equipment, Inc. (REI), a national retail cooperative providing quality outdoor gear and clothing, has announced that select REI brand products will carry an eco-sensitive label, designating items manufactured with a high percentage of recycled, rapidly renewable and/or organic fibers. Wells Fargo kicks off green marketing campaign Center member Wells Fargo & Co. has announced a green marketing campaign that will give Washington State customers three eco-friendly new services: Wells Fargo customers that purchase Energy Star-rated appliances with a Wells Fargo credit card are eligible to receive a rebate on the total purchase amount; credit card customers enrolled in Wells Fargo Rewards Program may redeem points for renewable energy certificates which the bank will match; customers who switch from paper bills to online statements online bill pay will receive $10. Wal-Mart to fund research on sustainability Wal-Mart has announced a $1.5 million donation to the University of Arkansas Applied Sustainability Center to fund projects related to advanced research on greenhouse gas emissions, agriculture, and environmental education.
